How to Torture a Person Without Really Trying
Kindly I want to tell you that I realized that sadly not all generic brands of medication are the same. Bad behavior came out frankly at a most inconvenient time because the pharmacy changed the brand of my medication right before I left to go to present at a conference.
Having this change turned my life into the feeling that my body was in a torture facility. My body felt like it was being poisoned. My nerves felt like glass shattering under my skin. More draining was when it started to feel like thousands of needles were pricking my body. My mom had never seen me in such a tortured position of being.
After we figured out what was wrong, we changed back to the old generic brand of medication. I started to feel better. I am almost back to myself.
Frankly I lost a week of my life.
jeremy,
Thank you for sharing how you felt. My 8 year old son was having a hard time on generic Nizoral (and they don’t make brand)…he kept telling me how sick he was. The doctor’s thought this was a ‘behavior’ even though I kept tell them that if he says he is sick, something isn’t right. We finally had the Nizoral compounded and my Coop was back to his happy self.
It was so awesome to meet you at Autism one, and your inspirational mother.
Keep on Rockin! Jeremy,
kersten
Jeremy,
My son had gone through basically, what you had gone through.
My son Dustin has several diagnoises along with him being on the spectrum.
One medicine for his seizures and one for his asthma.
We have come to realize that the pharmacies deal with several companies. And not all companies use the same ingredients. And Dustin’s behavior was unlike
him.
For those conditions, he doesn’t use generic medicine. He also has an emergency inhaler. And that is generic. I have realized even if he uses that generic inhaler. It doesn’t withstand his needs, as the inhaler the insurance refuses to pay for.
So, if you are extra sensitive as Dustin is. I am constantly battling with the insurance company, like never before.
I am glad to hear you are back on the road again, with your health.
I got your book, both you and your mother wrote. Exciting!
Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to the AutismOne conference. I hope you and your mother had a great time. That is where I met your mother. I believe it was in 2002.
Take care
Susan and Dustin Stibb
I totally understand where you are coming from since my daughter experiences this as well. What really makes me mad is that insurance companies are demanding us to use generics so we are supporting piracy. The main pharmacutical company invests millions into the R&D of their drug and when the patent expires, other companies can make it cheaper. They make it cheaper because they substite and cut corners. I don’t understand why the drug manufacturers haven’t challenged this practice since it is blatantly stealing. The whole drug industry needs to be overhauled since it is fraught!
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.
But I can share with you an amazing product that uses redox signaling molecules to tell our cells to repair itself, like when we were younger. There has been some great research on this and only one company that has cracked the code and has 31 patents to protect it from becoming generic. My ASD has really reaped the benefits and I am so happy for her and I am sharing my experience with my loved ones and now with you all.

Generics are NOT suitable alternatives to prescribed meds. Here is what Wiki Answers has to say:
“It is also important to note that the amount of drug which makes it into the bloodstream (bioavailability) can vary significantly for generic drugs; the bioavailability of generics is required to be within 20% of the branded drug, meaning it can be 20% lower to 20% higher. This can make a significant difference for drugs which are very dose-dependent. Also the amount of active ingredient in the generic only needs to be within 7% of the branded drug. All in all the generic might end up quite a bit less or more potent than the branded drug.”

Given this, the difficult task of determining the appropriate dosage of a specific drug for a specific patient becomes an impossible task, destined to fail. This does not make sense for anyone involved… including the insurance companies who must continue to foot the bill for emergency services and therapy that might have been avoided had the proper meds been used. I acknowledge the need to contain medical costs. But the savings achieved by substituting generics, frequently can not justify the increase in unnecessary human suffering.
I’m sorry you were feeling the way you describe.(it’s good you could say how you felt ) Your words make it very clear how you felt. And I am glad you are feeling almost? normal. It is hard to miss time in our lives. I have missed a lot of time. I have to keep moving forward and that is what you are doing. Good for you . Yea!

I just sent a copy of your book to my cousin’s wife. in Toronto. Ontario. Because you write so well!
Psychotropic/Psychoactive medications, more often than not, are dangerous because they only serve the person that decides that a patient does NOT fit into the mainstream. The exceptions are the most severely mentally ill-such as Scizophreniacs, and Bi-Polar Disorder sufferers.
What a horrible ordeal you went through Jeremy and thanks for sharing! I assumed generics are all the same. I never stopped to think about any changes it would bring on. Thanks for the heads up and sorry you had to go through what you did. Can you share what medications?
congratulations on being the 200th point of light!! I’m so glad that you feel better.
Thanks for writing this post. Sometimes the pharmacist doesn’t believe that the “same” medication isn’t always the same. I have used google search to find out what inactive ingredients are in medications that don’t agree with me. I do this by typing in the name of the medication and then ” + inactive “. I was amazed at how many other things they put in the pills besides the active medication.
Sometimes the only way to avoid the things that cause reactions is to get a pharmacist that does “compounding” that way they control each ingredient in the medication.
